Course outline:
Having effective and robust arrangements in place is essential to achieving good school attendance for all children. We know that absence from school is often an early indicator of underlying issues, and working effectively with families to understand and remove barriers to education is a key element of attendance support. This course will help you to strengthen your whole school approach to raising attendance and improving outcomes for children. Course content includes:
· An overview of school attendance guidance and legislation.
· The role of the attendance officer.
· Creating a whole school culture to achieve high attendance.
· The links between attendance and safeguarding.
· Best practice examples of attendance policies and procedures, including a range of interventions to support improved attendance.
· Understanding attendance codes and how to maintain accurate registers.
· Effective analysis of attendance and absence data to inform your attendance strategy.
· Working in partnership with children and families to understand and remove barriers to attendance.
· Sharing data in a meaningful way to highlight the impact of attendance on children’s achievement and wider outcomes.
