HM Government, Working together to safeguard children (2018)

This statutory multi-agency guidance replaces Working together to safeguard children (2015). The guidance applies to all organisations and agencies who have functions relating to children and covers:

• the legislative requirements placed on individual services

• a framework for the three local safeguarding partners (the local authority; a clinical commissioning group for an area, any part of which falls within the local authority; and the chief officer of police for a police area, any part of which falls within the local authority area) to make arrangements to work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of local children including identifying and responding to their needs

• the framework for the two child death review partners (the local authority and any clinical commissioning group for an area, any part of which falls within the local authority) to make arrangements to review all deaths of children normally resident in the local area, and if they consider it appropriate, for those not normally resident in the area

This statutory guidance should be read and followed by strategic and senior leaders and frontline practitioners of all organisations and agencies as set out in chapter 2 of this document.

This guidance focuses on the core legal requirements, making it clear what individuals, organisations and agencies must and should do to keep children safe. In doing so, it seeks to emphasise that effective safeguarding is achieved by putting children at the centre of the system and by every individual and agency playing their full part.

HM Government, Information sharing: advice for practitioners providing safeguarding services (July 2018)

This HM Government advice is non-statutory, and has been produced to support practitioners in the decisions they take to share information, which reduces the risk of harm to children and young people and promotes their well-being. 
This guidance has been updated to reflect the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018, and it supersedes the HM Government Information sharing: guidance for practitioners and managers published in March 2015.
This advice is for all frontline practitioners and senior managers working with children, young people, parents and carers who have to make decisions about sharing personal information on a case-by-case basis.

DfE, The Designated teacher for looked-after and previously looked-after children (2018)

Statutory guidance for schools and academies on promoting the educational attainment of looked-after and previously looked-after children. This guidance replaces previous guidance, The role and responsibilities of the designated teacher for looked-after children, issued in 2009.

HM Government What to do if you're worried a child is being abused (2015)

This advice is non-statutory, and has been produced to help practitioners identify child abuse and neglect and take appropriate action in response.

NICE Guideline, Child Abuse and Neglect (October 2017)

This non-statutory guidance is for health professionals, social care and education and all those working with children. The guideline covers recognising and responding to abuse and neglect in children and young people aged under 18. It covers physical, sexual and emotional abuse, and neglect. The guideline aims to help anyone whose work brings them into contact with children and young people to spot signs of abuse and neglect and to know how to respond. It also supports practitioners who carry out assessments and provide early help and interventions to children, young people, parents and carers.

Ofsted, JTAI MA Response to children living with domestic abuse (2017)

This report is about the second joint targeted area inspection programme, which began in September 2016 and which examined ‘the multi-agency response to children living with domestic abuse’. The findings in this report consider the extent to which, in the six local authorities inspected, children’s social care, health professionals, the police and probation officers were effective in safeguarding children who live with domestic abuse. The report calls for a national public service initiative to raise awareness of domestic abuse and violence. It also calls for a greater focus on perpetrators and better strategies for the prevention of domestic abuse.

DfE Prevent duty guidance (2015)

Departmental advice to help schools, PRUs and registered childcare settings understand the implications of the Prevent duty. This advice complements the statutory duty set out in the Counter Terrorism and Security Act (2015) to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. It is intended to help schools and childcare providers to think about what they can do to protect children from the risk of radicalisation.

This briefing note is aimed at head teachers, teachers and safeguarding leads and provides advice about online terrorist and extremist material. It includes a short summary of some of the main ISIL propaganda claims and identifies social media sites which ISIL is using.
